TeraByte Unlimited Graphic Information

This document and the associated programs or files are provided to
TeraByte Unlimited customers who either want to create their own
personal backgrounds or want to contribute icons and/or backgrounds
for inclusion with TeraByte Unlimited products.

Submitting your Contribution to TeraByte Unlimited
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

By contributing an original work of any type, the contributor grants an
assignment of the copyright by the copyright owner to TeraByte Unlimited,
providing all rights to use the work and derivatives of it in any and
all formats, media and purposes, whether known, unknown or yet to be
invented, for any and all purposes. In the case of dispute, conflicting
documents or use, or other interference with the granting of all rights,
the submitter warrants that at a minimum TeraByte Unlimited is granted by
the copyright owner a perpetual, irrevocable, world-wide, royalty-free
license to use the work and derivatives of it in any and all formats,
media and purposes, whether known, unknown or yet to be invented, for
any and all purposes.

If you agree to the preceding paragraph then follow these steps to
submit your contribution:

  1) Create a single zip file with all your contributions plus this
     readme.txt file to acknowledge your agreement to the above paragraph.
  2) E-mail the zip file to: contribute@terabyteunlimited.com


Graphics for BootIt Bare Metal (BIBM)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Modes:
------
  BIBM allows the follow graphic modes:

  640x480x16   - Standard VGA Mode
  640x480x256  - Palette based
  640x480x64K  - Direct color
  800x600x256  - Palette based
  800x600x64K  - Direct color
  1024x768x256 - Palette based
  1024x768x64K - Direct color

Background Screen Area:
-----------------------
  Width = Mode Width
  Height = Mode Height - 52

Contribute Icons as:
--------------------
  16x16x256 gif
  Invisible Pallet Index: 255*
 
  *NOTE: You may need to change it to a unique color so that the graphic 
         program doesn't match it and assign it a different index.  In 
         addition it makes it easier to see what you're doing.

Pallet:
-------
  You'll find the pallet for Paint Shop Pro (PSP), Corel (CPL), and
  Photoshop (ACT) included with this package.  If you're using a 
  different graphic package that can't import the various palettes
  then refer to the PSP file for the RGB colors.


Creating your own graphic icon library:
---------------------------------------
  You can create up to 56 addtional custom 16x16 icons you can use on the boot
  menu.  This is done by using the included ICONLIB.EXE program to maintain
  a file named ICON16.DAT.  ICONLIB.EXE can be run in DOS or Windows x32 
  envrionments to add 16x16 GIF files to the library.  Once you have your
  icon library created, you can included it on your BootIt installation disk
  by placing it in the folder you extracted the BootIt to prior to running
  makedisk.


How to load backgrounds in BIBM:
--------------------------------
  NOTE: if you manually type in the background filename you must use the
        short (8.3) name and not the long name.


  Method 1 - Copy them via a drive letter.

  This method assumes you can access the location BIBM is installed
  via a drive letter.

  Steps:

  1) Copy the files to the BIBM drive letter.

  That's it.  To set the background:

  1) Enter maintenance mode.
  2) Click on settings.
  3) Click on the browse button for the backgrounds.
  4) Choose the background.

  Method 2 - Copy from diskette.

  Steps:

  1) Place the files on a diskette.
  2) Enter maintenance mode.
  3) Click on settings.
  4) Click the browse button for the backgrounds.
  5) Insert the diskette.
  6) Type: A:*.PCX and press enter.
  7) Choose the background to load.
  8) Repeat steps 4-7 until all backgrounds are loaded.
  9) Click on the browse button for the backgrounds.
  10) Choose the background.

  Method 3 - Use TBOSDT 

  Steps:

  1) Run tbosdtw.
  2) Enable locking by running "set option locking 2"
  3) Run the command "list hd 0" to find the ID of the BootIt partition.
  4) Mount it with "mount 0: 0 0xID" where "ID" is the ID found in step 3.
  5) Copy the file to the 0: drive. (e.g. "copy c:\file.pcx 0:")
  6) Type "exit".

  To set the background in BIBM:

  1) Enter maintenance mode.
  2) Click on settings.
  3) Click on the browse button for the backgrounds.
  4) Choose the background.

  For no background simply clear the background field using the
  delete key.
